Employability Award

Project Outcomes...

  • A new Customised Employability Award at four levels (SCQF 3-6)

  • A Quality Assurance system that defines the delivery team roles and ensures fair and reliable assessment

  • Approval of the Dumfries and Galloway Council as an SQA Centre

“We needed support to develop our Customised Employability Award and the quality assurance systems required to become an SQA Centre. Pisces LI proved more than capable, delivering a first class package of considerable interest to stakeholders. ”
Phil Stewart - Dumfries and Galloway Employability and Skills Service

The Request

Following an extensive consultation with local employers, the Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Employability and Skills Service team devised a set of employability skills and behaviours that needed to be embedded within an SQA Customised Employability Award at 4 levels (SCQF 3-6)

Pisces Learning Innovations were selected to support the Council by developing Customised Awards to meet the stakeholders aspirations and to prepare the Employability and Skills Service team for SQA Award and Centre approval.

Our Response

The employability criteria were analysed, leading to the development of 3 new Extended Work Experience Units at SCQF levels 4-6 and assessments. Award frameworks were refined at each of the 4 levels required Guidance documents for learners and employers were created to support the  induction process, carefully explaining the use of the personal log and witness testimony, the two main methods of assessment.

Subsequently, a Quality Manual was developed, incorporating Dumfries Council policies and procedures, revised, as required to satisfy the SQA and clearly defining the roles of the delivery team and the assessment verification process.

A staff induction day was prepared and delivered to the Employability team, ensuring that they understood their obligations to SQA, once approved centre status had been achieved.
