Biography

Fifteen years of senior management experience with responsibility for curriculum development, quality improvement and the leadership of the academic staff at a highly regarded land based college. The instigator and driving force behind strategies and plans to promote ‘blended learning’ innovations, successfully penetrating new markets whilst improving access and the quality of the learner experience.

Over twenty years of experience in the design and production of college and work based qualifications and learning resources have helped to hone project management and development skills . As a specialist in aquaculture and fisheries, local and national projects catering for a wide range of target audiences have been initiated and delivered. A number of developments for other land based sectors have been conceived, and some have become recognised as sector leading innovations nationally.

Biography

An expert advisor to the European Commission’s Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency working as an assessor/evaluator of transnational Lifelong Learning Programmes and Projects.

Over twenty years as Managing Director of an international consultancy working in the field of workforce development, both in public and private sector on strategic planning, policy development, change management, business process re-engineering and facilitation of partnerships. International reform and modernisation projects have been undertaken, developing skills and implementing learning systems and processes to support organisational and workforce development. The design and implementation of blended learning solutions to support organisational performance is an area of particular expertise.

An early career in Higher Education as Head of Student Services and later as Commercial Manager of a Centre for Software Engineering was followed by a number of Public Appointments. These have included serving on the following Boards: LearnDirect Scotland, Scottish Children’s Reporters Administration, Guernsey Youth and Child Tribunal and the Berwickshire Housing Association.

  • Grenada Government Office of the Prime Minister, Department of Human Resources and the Department of Land and Fisheries – design and implementation of systems and processes to support the HR function across government. Review of competencies of Senior Civil Servants (working directly with the Prime Minister and Cabinet). Implementation of an eLearning Leadership and Management Academy in partnership with the Community College. Review and integration of HR processes and systems and Public Service Commission Guidelines to promote consistency of practice in recruitment, selection and promotion. Design of electronic tools to aid resource planning, reporting and management.
  • CARICAD, Barbados – Working with the Public Sector Development Agency to enable electronic and remote access to training, development and knowledge acquisition to support public sector reform and modernisation projects across the Caribbean.
  • Grenada Customs Department Reform and Modernisation Programme – HRD planning, process mapping, development of the content for an on-line operations manual, management development and business improvement facilitation.

Pamela Ernstberger

Biography

Extensive experience in teaching aquaculture and fisheries, as well as languages, at secondary and further education levels and in various countries. An outgoing and creative person, who enjoys involving and mentoring students undertaking research-based projects in aquaculture and related fields.

Throughout a long teaching career,  the implementation of technology to facilitate learning has been pursued increasingly, allowing for more effective instruction and having a greater impact on student learning. There are many 21st century tools available for better course design and effective learning. Knowing how to use these and having a good understanding of the cognitive science of learning, has led to developing programmes using different Learning Management Systems, creating instructional videos, podcasts and websites, with the learner’s need in mind.

2/16: As Lecturer in Fisheries Management and Aquaculture, Shuttleworth College, Bedfordshire, collaborated with Groene Welle, Netherlands Vocational School in the organisation of an RAS and cyprinid breeding workshop for BTEC Level 3 students. To complete this training, re-wrote the assignment aligned to the BTEC specifications including implementing the professional skills and EU legislation learned in this course. Currently working with Moodle.

• 10/13- 9/15: Independent Consultant for CREC, the Capitol Regional Education Council, Hartford CT, USA. Facilitated an online course for aquaculture and developed the lab unit for the chemistry module in a hybrid setting using CourseSites by Blackboard.
• 8/10- 7/15: Bridgeport Regional Aquaculture Science and Technology Education Centre. During this time taught aquaculture biology; developed a course to teach aquaculture systems at the vocational level using technology based-instruction in classroom and fish hatchery. Using Edmodo.
• 3/15: Design Plan for High Schools Partnerships- Using a Cognitive Apprenticeship Learning Approach through an Aquaculture Online Network
• 2/15: Poster designed to showcase the research-based science work that students attending Bridgeport Aquaculture have opportunities to participate in, using state of the start facilities and resources to facilitate instruction and learning. Projects highlight collaborations with academic and industry partners; an area that I am currently working on to expand, to create more opportunities for young people to get more practical experience in the field of aquaculture.

• 4/15: Produced video to direct viewers through step-by-step instructions on how to tune a set of bagpipes. By presenting the same tune played before bagpipes are tuned, the learner will be able to identify the differences in sound.

Over twenty years of experience in the Scottish FE sector developing and delivering materials in a range of land-based subjects. Latterly this has developed into quality enhancement and monitoring, requiring the development of robust systems for quality management and audit.

Over twelve years of experience as a lecturer and senior lecturer in the UK university sector with responsibility for undergraduate teaching, assessment and course management, supervision of postgraduate research students and plant science research projects

Five years of hands-on practical experience in the land-based sector.

  • As a Higher Still development officer, led the development and introduction into the Scottish curriculum of Managing Environmental Resources at SCQF levels 2-7 and the associated project-based group awards in Land and Environment. Led the development of support materials to assist delivery in both schools and colleges.
  • Supported the development and SQA validation of a revised HND in Veterinary Nursing, rationalising the assessment strategy to satisfy Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons requirements.
  • Supported the development of SQA Units and the SQA validation for a range of land-based programmes, including the NPA in Aquaculture.
  • Developed learning packs for the innovative delivery of science subjects through food processing and hygiene within the context of a commercial fish foods processing plant.

Extended and extensive experience of designing and facilitating management development in the public, private and third sector. Believes in the bespoke design and delivery of interventions to meet customer needs, as opposed to ‘off the shelf’ training. Preparations are meticulous, paying great attention to detail to ensure that the clients development aims are met.

Has developed particular expertise in management and leadership development, coaching for performance improvement or career development, policy and strategy development, learning and development diagnosis.
